Funding will support initial Axio Lattice deployments connecting pharma with their manufacturing partners

MADISON, WI, UNITED STATES, September 21, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Axio BioPharma, which helps pharma and their manufacturing partners keep manufacturing data connected across company lines, today announced the closing of a $2.4 million pre-seed financing round. The round included investments from Elmstead Partners, Chisos Capital, the Chemical Angel Network, and a group of individual angel investors.

The financing will support initial deployments of Axio Lattice and continued development of Rosetta, Lattice’s ontology mapping layer. Rosetta maps differences in terminology, structure, and context so information remains understandable and comparable across organizations.

Pharma companies have spent years digitizing research and manufacturing inside their own organizations. But when a program moves between pharma, a manufacturing partner and a testing lab, the handoff still depends heavily on documents, spreadsheets and manual data mapping.

Axio Lattice connects manufacturing information across pharma and their manufacturing partners while each company keeps its existing systems and ownership of its data. That lets both sides work from the same information without moving data into a central repository or replacing the systems they already use.

“Some of the hardest problems in biomanufacturing show up in the handoff between companies,” said Justin Byers, founder and CEO of Axio BioPharma. “A pharma sponsor can have great systems and a manufacturing partner can have great systems, but the exchange between them is still surprisingly manual work. This funding lets us start deploying Lattice with design partners and keep expanding Rosetta around the way those teams actually work.”

Axio’s technology development is grounded in Axio Forge, its high-throughput research-grade monoclonal antibody laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin. Forge gives the team firsthand insight into how scientific and manufacturing data is created, structured, and used in real laboratory workflows. The company’s first Lattice node operates at Forward BioLabs, where Forge is based.

The financing follows a period of growing partnership activity for Axio across the biologics development ecosystem. In recent months, the company selected Ansa Biotechnologies as its preferred gene synthesis provider, strengthening the gene synthesis workflow supporting Axio Forge’s research-grade antibody production. Axio partnered with The BioForge to explore coordinated development workflows, proof-of-concept projects, and joint customer opportunities.

Axio was recently selected for Batch 3 of the Plug and Play Lifetech accelerator, further expanding its connections with industry partners and life sciences innovation leaders.

Building on this momentum, Axio plans to work directly with design partners on workflows where cross-company data gaps create the most friction, including tech transfer and investigations. Lattice is also designed to let AI models work with a more complete picture of a program while the underlying data stays where it is.

“After reviewing more than 400 companies over the past eight years, we believe Axio is addressing an important operational challenge for the biopharmaceutical industry,” said Ray Jordan, managing director of Elmstead Partners. “Axio is one of Elmstead’s highest-conviction investments across our portfolio of 71 private life sciences companies. That reflects our conviction in Justin and his team, as well as the need for a better way to work across the organizational boundaries that define modern biomanufacturing.”

About Axio BioPharma

Axio BioPharma helps pharma and their manufacturing partners keep manufacturing data connected across company lines. Axio Lattice connects information across those organizations while the underlying data stays in each company’s existing systems and under its existing ownership. Axio Forge is a high-throughput research-grade monoclonal antibody lab in Madison, Wisconsin, producing purified antibodies in 3–5 weeks from sequence.
