Washington, DC – Leadership Initiatives has opened nationwide enrollment for its summer internship programs for high school students, giving eligible students across the United States the opportunity to participate in immersive, career-focused experiences in Washington, DC. The programs are designed to introduce students to professional fields through structured experiential learning, mentorship, and project-based activities.

 

For more than 20 years, Leadership Initiatives has worked with high school students interested in exploring future careers while developing communication, leadership, research, and problem-solving skills. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Leadership Initiatives provides in-person career development opportunities intended to help students understand professional environments before entering college or the workforce.

The organization’s summer internship programs for high school students cover several areas of study and career exploration. Current program options include Criminal Law & Trial, Advanced Law & Justice Reform, Medical & Public Health, Medical Neuroscience, AI & Medical Innovation, AI & Business Strategy, International Leadership & Business, National Security & Diplomacy, and Cybersecurity & Business Consulting. The programs emphasize hands-on learning and interaction with professionals and partner organizations rather than relying solely on traditional classroom instruction.

 

Students who attend a Leadership Initiatives summer program may also receive access to academic and admissions-related support services. These resources include SAT and ACT preparation through PrepScholar, admissions guidance, essay assistance, letters of recommendation, scholarship guidance, personalized student websites, fundraising support, and flexible payment options. Program tuition includes applicable room and board, curriculum materials, scheduled transportation and admission for program activities, and required facility or laboratory fees.

 

Enrollment is open to eligible high school students ranging from rising freshmen through graduating seniors. Applicants are asked to submit academic transcripts, references, a recommendation, a personal statement, and participate in an admissions interview. Participants must also be available to attend a one-week summer session in Washington, DC, during June, July, or August. Certain program activities take place at Georgetown University facilities, and additional screening or documentation requirements may apply depending on the specific program and participating organizations.

 

Leadership Initiatives also maintains participant safety and program oversight procedures throughout its summer sessions. The organization follows applicable public health, facility, and partner requirements and provides students with structured supervision during program activities. The emphasis remains on giving high school students an opportunity to experience professional subject areas, work through practical projects, and gain more insight into possible academic and career interests.
